The Mariamman Hindu Temple is one of the VERY few (to my knowledge, there are only 2 around) Hindu temples still use in Ho Chi Minh City and is a little piece of southern India in Saigon. Though there are only 50 to 60 Hindus in HCMC- all of them Tamils – this temple is also considered sacred by many Vietnamese and ethnic Chinese. One really interesting sight is how people are using joss sticks as a form of prayers and offerings- something you’ll usually only find in Chinese temples. The Mariamman Hindu Temple was built at the end of the 19th century and is just a few blocks behind the Ben Thanh Market.

 

Standing in front of the Ben Thanh Market, you’ll see that there are 2 streets flanking the sides of the market (marked by the 2 arrows). Start your way to the Mariamman Hindu Temple from the left side (yellow arrow).

The Ben Thanh Market is now to your right. From here, go to the end of the road (T-junction) and make a left turn.

Now that you are done with the left turn, keep walking down and at the cross road junction, make a right turn. The Mariamman Hindu Temple is just round the corner.
